Blended Traditional
The Blended Traditional model of blended learning is one in which the schedule of a traditional school day remains the same and teachers use online content only for selected portions of instruction.
Teacher Feature: Caitlin Holmes, Physics, Turpin High School, Forest Hills School District
Station Rotation: Within the station rotation model of blended learning, students rotate through stations, one or more of which is online. What it looks like: In Ms. Holmes' version of a station rotation model, she uses a variety of technology tools including Schoology, Socrative, and Pinterest to allow her students to review and learn new vocabulary at their own pace. Ms. Holmes is then able to determine which vocabulary concepts the students already know and which ones she should spend more time on in her face-to-face instructional time. Outcomes: In her recent implementation of this model of blended learning, Ms. Holmes was able to gain several days that would have been spent lecturing to her students. Instead, she had a better understanding of what her students already knew and was able to put that time toward the application of concepts. |
In Ms. Holmes' Words:
Using the Blending Learning model has helped me spend more time and focus in the classroom on labs and problem solving. It has also helped to bridge the gap between what students already know and what they need to know as a baseline for my class. Students that need more enforcement on these ideas and concepts have the time and the resources to do so while still aiming for the same level of mastery as the other students. This model has also been especially helpful to continue student learning during breaks, snow days, and days when I'm unable to be with them in the classroom. |
